Christoph Schalk: H
ow to Use The
3 Colors of Ministry in a Mentoring Relationship: Mentor’s Guide

Discovering one’s own spiritual gifting is an eye-opening experience for many Christians. For local churches this might even turn into a door-opening experience as they begin to recognize their God-given potential. More often, however, churches seem to miss that open door or even slam it by allowing gift discovery approaches to become an end in itself.

That of course raises the interesting question as to how churches can take advantage of that open door and enter through. How can they move from just staring at the God-given potential to releasing it in their ministry?

Energy
Transformation
in a Latin American
Perspective

One day César Gatjens, National NCD Partner for Costa Rica, received a phone call from a Latin American church leader. Pastor Carlos was deeply concerned about a conflict situation he and his church were facing.

"César," he began to explain, "last Sunday one of our neighbors living next to our church building showed up. He interrupted our worship service and told the congregation in a forcible way that his patience with us was about to run out. He no longer was willing to take the noise our gatherings were generating. Finally, he threatened to take us to court and have the authorities close the church." ―> more...

Ending Well: Reflecting on the NCD Cycle

Good coaching includes reflection on what has been helpful, what might need change, and what the best next steps might be. The same is true for coaching a church through the NCD cycle.

By the time a church has worked its way through the NCD cycle, they have experienced some changes, some disappointments, and some victories. An NCD consultant does well to assist the Implementation Team in thinking through the journey they have been on before launching into the next cycle.  ―> more...

NCD launched in Romania with 45 coaches

Some say that the Transylvania region in Romania sits on one of the earth's strongest magnetic fields and its people have extra-sensory perceptions. Vampires are believed to hang around crossroads on St George's Day, April 23rd, and the eve of St Andrew, November 29th...

Even with this history and a lot of other tourist attractions, it seems that Romania (one of the poorest countries in Europe) will also be known for something else in future – Natural Church Development. ―> more...

Friary United Reformed Church: A Case Study

Two years ago Friary United Reformed Church committed themselves to a change process — from being a ‘maintenance’ or a ‘pastoral’ church to becoming a missional church. The research project now has less than two years to run. There are four phases to the project:

1. An examination of Church Health through NCD
2. A Community survey
3. Definition of missional church and strategy
4. The development of each member.

Maximizing the Outcomes of the NCD Survey: Gift-oriented Ministry Analysis

For the last four years, I have been working intensely with data gathered from NCD surveys. As I kept entering surveys, my desire grew to find ways of analyzing the data that would generate more information than just eight numbers for each church. In the past six months now, I have had the opportunity to work with the worldwide NCD database.

That very database symbolizes a lot of energy invested by people who filled in NCD surveys. In my view, reason enough to provide a small window for analysis and see what can be learned from the data. ―> more...

Reaching Goals through Coaching (I)

Did you know that the word "coach" did not originally come from the English language? It comes from the Hungarian "kocsi", which means coach or bus. In 1556, it was used for the first time in England. So, what is a coach? It is a vehicle that brings you to your goal.  ―> more...
